The DSCOVR spacecraft sits a distant one million miles away from the Earth situated between our planet and the sun. It's purpose is to support climate science using its instruments to analyze the Earth but also to provide advance warning on solar events with potential impact (solar wind/storms/etc). Incidentally, in a recent imaging survey, the moon passed between DSCOVR and the Earth providing a cool transit series that also reveals the "dark side" which is not visible to planet dwellars. A YouTube video is available from NASA.
