Russian Data Privacy

[index] [360 page views]

The infamous espionage agent Edward Snowden left America under the guise of revealing the US Government's oppressive data snooping policies. He found refuge in Russia ... where laws exist that require any on-line operation involving Russian citizens to transfer all data through a checkpoint. Existing since 2008, that checkpoint, Roskomnadzor, is a Russian entity whose purpose is to oversee all digital media presumably for the protection of its citizen's personal data. More recently, Russian President Putin just passed a law requiring all providers to retain 6 months of ALL citizen's activities (calls, SMS, etc.) with the FSB in order to facilitate rooting out terrorists and supporting activities. Hopefully Snowden is enjoying all of his "freedom" in his new home.
